Menopause - Time to take a reality check

Menopausal Women need Tender Love and Care What women want Sonam, a 41 yr young woman was experiencing mood swings, spells of crying, feeling of loneliness, not to mention listlessness, hot flushes, fatigue and irregular sleep patterns. Her immediate family really did not notice the changes as the husband was very busy with his work and the teenage children were busy with their own friends. They did feel that Sonam was getting irritated at the slightest of matter. However that was ignored as Sonam was always a very sensitive person according to them. Sonam consulted a doctor who diagnosed the situation as premenopausal syndrome and asked her to talk to her family about it. The doctor explained the emotional and the psychological effects thus preparing her for the menopause which may actually take another 7 or 8 yrs or maybe more. The physiological factor primarily would be that hormonal changes start much before the actual menopause and these changes may increase the production of sero...

Anger Management

Anger Management – Tame the Monster Recently an 11 yr young boy approached me to help him to control his anger. He said he wanted to learn to control anger as it was causing many problems for him like inability to make friends, conflicts with his teachers, issues with his mother. I must say that the boy really has a very high level of introspection and support from his parents to identify his problem at such a young age and be able to seek help. Statistics show that we all have experienced anger at some point or the other in our lives and some of us experience it quite frequently with the intensity which leaves behind scars for out near and dear ones and for us. Can we understand and identify Anger Anger is just like any other emotion that we experience. It cannot be called a positive emotion, however as long as it does not disturb the day to day life of an individual, its occurrence is considered to be normal. It is only when the frequency and the intensity of its occurrence increases...

Corporate Readiness

Dear Friends, We all are aware that the mention of the word Corporate Readiness brings in big terms like Six Sigma, Insight Behavioural Science, Web Technologies etc. However the hard fact is that every fourth student who completes his education is not employable and has difficulty to say his name clearly. There are organisations who prepare students for Resume Writing, Interview skills and Group Discussion while 85% of the students lack comprehension skills. What is ailing the education system which has disturbed the ratio of the company budget that appears heavier for training rather than for compensation. If Schools and Colleges were to ensure that students are well groomed, equippped with excellent communication skills both written and verbal, then the companies would not have to spend on training as much as they do now. The companies could definitely offer a higher package to all the employees. Corporate houses could concentrate then on building the negotaition skills and explore ...

Steps towards Building the Coping Mechanisms for Students

STEPS WHICH COULD BE TAKEN TO ENHANCE THE COPING MECHANISMS Dear Readers, These days media is blamed the increasing crime and addiction in adolescent. We need to get this message very strongly that every child has a coping mechanism which is unique. What I mean to say is that almost all children watch movies with aggression, play video games, and even tom and jerry is not teaching values, but a lot of aggression is displayed. But despite this only few children react or behave in a delinquent manner. This could be because of many factors or any one factor like environment, inappropriate role models, instant gratification needs, genetic composition, low frustration tolerance level, no conscience (which is seen in hard core criminals, research has shown a dominance of genetic as well as environment factor in this area.). STEP I What ever the factors may be, we are well aware that YOGA is an ancient science which means balance or unison of mind, body and soul. Western countries have ado...

Learning Disability - Play Therapy is the best solution

SIMPLE TECHNIQUES AND COPING STRATEGIES FOR LEARNING DIFFICULTIES What are Learning Difficulties Learning difficulties (LD) are neurological disorders that interfere with a person’s ability to store, process or produce information, and create a ‘gap’ between one’s ability and performance. Individuals with LDs generally have average or high intelligence. LDs can affect one’s ability to read, write, speak or compute math, and can impede social skills. Individuals with LDs can have marked difficulties on certain tasks while they may excel in other areas. Students with LD may have difficulty in all three areas or more than one, that is reading – dyslexia, writing – dysgraphia and arithmetic – dyscalculia. Who could be experiencing this? This difficulty is seen in students and if goes unrecognized or in mild form may also get carried to adulthood. We realized that many parents are still unaware that, there are many children who are otherwise normal however could be slow in their development...

Be a Solution Parent and not a Problem Parent

Hi Friends, The word examination creates a kind of anxiety not only for students but more so for parents. Here are some simple tips which could help you to be a support to your children. Effective Tips for parents to become a part of the solution and not part of the problem. Become a strong support system, for children during examination. 1. Try and maintain a positive environment around the house with soft music, Gayatri Mantra, shloka’s etc. It has been proved that playing Mozart helps improve concentration. Richard Clayderman and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia also would be a good choice. The music could be played in the background even when the children are studying. 2. It would be wise to talk in a positive tone to children while reminding them of their studies and avoid any kind of sarcasm or negative consequences. 3. Comparison is very damaging and this is definitely not the time to remind them how well their siblings or cousins are doing or how the entire family has ha...

A Legend With A Vision

A LEGEND WITH A VISION The academic year has come to an end and just like every year I was taking a reality check on the achievements of this year as well as the areas which need attention, improvisation and follow-ups. One of the areas where I can say that a big milestone has been achieved is the remedial education programme which is on-going at Saraswati Vidyalaya, Rabodi, Thane. This has been possible because of the dedicated team and the support and understanding of the teachers. However this makes me wonder as to how many students in Mumbai actually are getting this kind of support, understanding and encouragement. This has been possible only because of the vision that Mrs. Korde has and I have received strong encouragement from her. I cannot think of any better title for the person I am going to describe who has made a great impact in my course of life. My choice of not opting for a nine to five assignment for various reasons has been of a great advantage and has brought me ve...

Reading and Bonding

Image
This is one of the article on the above topic. Reading is a very powerful tool that helps parents maintain a very close and healthy relationship with their children. When does reading start and till which age does a parent stop reading to the child. Reading can begin as early as when the baby is in the womb. It is always advised that the mother reads pleasant books and articles which would make her happy and transfer the same feeling to the baby in the womb. In my Mothers and Angels programme, reading is a very essential part of the routine along with music designed for mothers to be. Reading about facts is encouraged as it facilitates the development of the brain. Reading to a child could continue till the age of 10 or 12. After that the child starts reading independently. He or she is already reading indepently for academics, however reading for leisure if accompanied with a parent is always very comforting to the child. It creates the feeling of security, which is lacking in so many...

The Purpose of Existence of a Mother on this Earth

Image
Dear friends, This is about me and only me. If all the mothers can relate to this feeling then I would say the existence of a mother on this earth is fulfilled. According to me when God created this world, (this part is strictly for the believers of course) God had in mind first only the existence of children, their innocence, their well being, their health, love to spread on this earth, but then he also wanted to create someone who would give all this to the children. Thus came the existence of the mother. Mother, a symbol of love (mamata), an image of someone who is caring, loving, soft spoken, full of empathy, a healer, a support, someone who nurtures. He created mother and also filled her with all these needs. The world was now filled with beautiful children and mothers to take care of them, to nurture them, to groom them into beautiful adults. Readers may keep pondering as to how I have completely kept the role of the father out of this. But please do not get distracted, I mention...
Thank U Sheru, While the average age of the army man is around 30 years, at the time of enrolling / commissioning he is around 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He's a recent school/college graduate; he was probably an average student from one of the Kendriya Vidyalayas, pursued some form of sport activities, rides an old mo'bike / scooter, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to bollywood music or ghazals or rock & roll or hip-hop or country or swing …. ………. and a 155mm howitzer. He is 5 or 7 kilos lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting insurgents or standing guard on the icy Himalayas or the jungles of the North East from before dawn to well a...
I came across this extraordinary message. Read it with an open mind. No offence is meant to anyone. if you agree, fine ...... if you disagree, then also it is OK with me. stay in touch ........ life is too short to have grudges against anyone ........ WHY I AM A HINDU Four years ago, I was flying from JFK NY Airport to SFO to attend a meeting at Monterey , CA An American girl was sitting on the right side, near window seat. It indeed was a long journey - it would take nearly seven hours. I was surprised to see the young girl reading a Bible unusual of young Americans. After some time she smiled and we had few acquaintances talk.I told her that I am from India Then suddenly the girl asked: 'What's your faith?' 'What?' I didn't understand the question. 'I mean, what's your religion? Are you a Christian? Or a Muslim?' 'No!' I replied, 'I am neither Christian nor Muslim'. Apparently she appeared shocked to listen to that. 'Then who a...
