Teenagers and Lockdown

TEENAGERS AND LOCKDOWN When my earlier posts reached across, many parents wrote to me asking for some guidelines to handle teenagers especially when the lockdown got extended. The very two words do not go together that is teenage and lockdown in other words curfew. The word curfew for a teenager is associated with punishment and their brain would take a while to accept that this is for containment and not punishment. No doubt it is a challenge for the parents to first deal with their own schedules and the great challenges emerged out of this lockdown and this can have a double whammy  if there is or are teenagers who are experiencing frustration as well. It is a well known and researched conclusion that our frustrations come out on our lives ones and in the cas of the teenagers it is their parents. Instead of getting worked up and falling into the arguing and fighting mode, let us get into the solution and harmony mode. As parents, you first need to accept what they a...

Family needs listening skills and less of advice.

FAMILY NEEDS LISTENING SKILLS AND LESS ADVICE Since the first lock down we have completed a week now and everyone is doing great as of now. Well almost everyone. We have a day to look forward to and everyone is dreaming about resuming to their normal lives. Like resuming work, resuming shopping, walks, gyms etc. At the same time there is an apprehension that God knows how much time it will take. All the above leads to a lot of anxiety and worry and during this time it is quite possible that tempers flare, misunderstandings happen, harsh words are spoken then regretted. In this scenario, What is required is more of listening and less of advising. In the next week or after that the joy of being together at home and doing things together may start to wear off. While some family members may feel that it is good to have everyone home, some may feel that their sanctity has been disturbed. Children who are happy to see their parents home may start feeling the brunt of too many advice...

THANK YOU CORONA

Thank you Corona  Is Corona here to DESTROY or SAVE the human race. While the world is asking Corona to go. I have a little different take on the entire situation. Please do not misunderstand. I am not asking Corona to stay. But I am seeing the effect it has had on the entire human race. The birds in my surroundings are singing as usual. The dogs are guarding the streets as usual, except for the little confusion they experienced for five minutes, the squirrels are running to and fro, up and down the trees as usual, only the human is changing and I pray that the change keeps on getting better and better. Yes the trees are looking very happy as they are breathing clean air.  This piece of writing was inspired by the way the country responded to the humble request of the prime minister and the way the world watched us all making a difference.  We all know that for more than five decades the earth has been giving warnings in forms of Tsunami, different virus...

NEXT 15 DAYS

NEXT 15 DAYS AND BEYOND While there is a huge inflow of precautionary measures and advises coming your way to face the covid 19, I would recommend how to keep your mind calm and positive and also spend the time with your family as a whole in the next 15 days and beyond. In situations like the present one, it is best to sit and think how this can be converted into an opportunity to make up for all the lost time, or all the things you have been wanting to do when you get more time at home. Now that you shall be working from home and children are also going to be there as schools and colleges are going to be closed and going to malls and outdoor is not an option, it will be very good to do things together rather than spend time on whatsapp and with gadgets. Here is a list of things you can do together as a family and in the house and keep yourself occupied and also strengthen your mind and your immune system. 1     After learning about all the precautionary...
